Using imagery from comic books of India, published by Amar Chitra Katha (Illustrated Stories) in 1970-1980; my aim for this series is to introduce my audience to India’s iconic graphic arts. Chitra Katha is my way of recounting the stories from my childhood, told by my grandmother. This series is an homage to folk art of India and Hindu mythology, reminiscent of the innumerable stories I read as a child and my exposure to traditional art forms while growing up. The splashed use of color, amidst the powerful black and white illustrations puts emphazises on the iconic strong women from the intricate colorful background.
